And, now that Nvidia has just launched its new technology Ampere graphics cards and on the other side AMD is on the cusp of launching the Big Navi Radeon RX 6000 series, the graphics war has never been hotter.

People fight and argue on Twitter, but it can be extremely confusing to decide which manufacturer is better. After all, nobody actually needs the graphics card discourse, but people do need a reliable and performance giving graphics card for their needs.
Nowadays, the graphics card market is a little bit imbalanced at the top end section, especially with the recent launch of the Monster GPU Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090, a card that’s marketed by Nvidia that can give 8K performance – but the performance isn’t quite at that level if we compare with the price. The closest thing AMD has right now is the Radeon RX 6900 XT, which can beat RTX 3090 in FPS performance, but the Ray Tracing performance is not good in AMD. However, that may not last for long, as AMD is creating its next-generation Big Navi-powered Radeon RX 7000 series of graphics cards. One time will tell if these new AMD monster graphics cards will be enough to dethrone Nvidia at the high end like it did Intel with its Ryzen chips after a couple of generations.
Traditionally, we know that AMD has always been famous for the more affordable brand of graphics cards, and that’s actually is true in recent days… Right now, especially in the mid-range section, AMD has graphics cards like the Radeon RX 5500 XT, which provide excellent performance at the mid-range price point. If your budget is around this mid-range level, AMD’s generous helping with more VRAM here means that you will get much better performance in Sci-Fi games than Nvidia’s equivalent GTX 650 can offer.
Once you go to the higher range, things change, however. In this time If you look at the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT and the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super, for instance, you’re getting basically the same performance at the same price either way, but you’re getting a more feature set with the Nvidia’s card – including the ray tracing and AI-powered DLSS.
These two GPUs end up trading blows in a lot of games at 2k resolution, which is usually a sign of a healthy market industry. However, with DLSS enabled, Nvidia gets a huge performance boost in titles that support the technology, making it hard for us to recommend the Radeon RX 5700 XT, unless it performs better in some of the specific games you’re into.
Right now, Nvidia and AMD both make powerful cards, and its a big competition is going in the GPU industry. But, in terms of Ray Tracing performance AMD currently doesn’t have anything on the market that can come up in the market and strike Nvidia’s most powerful GPU’s.
If you want to play the best PC games at 4K resolution and get a solid 60+ fps frame rate with Ray Tracing enabled, you should definitely be stuck with Nvidia. That’s set to change, however.
At the AMD new generation Ryzen 5000 reveal event, AMD’s CEO Lisa Su took the stage to show off the upcoming processors of this segment. However, at the last of that event, she talked about the upcoming Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs, with some hints as to the performance we can expect from the upcoming line-up.
In the lower resolutions section, however, GPUs are way more accessible. In 2021, if if you want to get a graphics card that will power high-end modern PC games at 1080p settings for around 25,000 with something like the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 or the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. And, if you just want to play some Call of Duty Warzone or Valorant, you can do that with a low range of graphics card like the GeForce GTX 1650 18,000 rupees.
Then, if you want to play AAA games at 2k resolution with no compromises, both AMD and Nvidia have great options with the Radeon RX 5700 XT and RTX 3070 Super, respectively.
The wider availability of graphics cards in a various price point that can push pixels at these resolutions on a budget has made PC gaming much more accessible than ever before, and we will definitely hope that this upcoming generation can start to do the same for 4K and 8k gaming on PC, especially when the PS5 and Xbox Series X are right around the corner for much less than the price of a high-end gaming PC.
Exclusivity and features
When it comes to point out the features and not only just rendering games, Nvidia and AMD take different approaches.
Typically, AMD’s approach is much more consumer-friendly affordable graphics, as it releases features and technologies that can be used even on the Nvidia graphics cards – though they will usually work best on AMD’s own silicon.
Nvidia, on the other hand, likes to keep things secret, launching features like DLSS that only work on its own platform. Team Nvidia has been doing this for a couple of years, going back to its PhysX technology. In fact, with that latter technology, you will see that with a dedicated PhysX graphics card in your system, it can compute the computationally heavy workload.
In this new generation, however, Nvidia has launched a ton of latest features that are help customer outside of gaming, both as part of its ongoing Nvidia Studio driver program for creative and professional workloads, and just to aid people in their post-pandemic lives.
Most notably, with the new Ampere Technology, you get Nvidia Broadcast software, which is an incredibly useful technology for Game Streamers. With this program, you can replace backgrounds in any video conferencing app using Nvidia’s ingenious build AI. What’s better in there is that you can also use it to filter out all background noise from your microphone while in a call, or you are doing game streaming.
On the other hand side, AMD is still very much focused on the gaming section with its mainstream graphics cards, and all features in its new FidelityFX software suite introduced with RDNA are centred on delivering a better gaming experience. This includes things like contrast adaptive sharpening (CAS) that makes playing on a higher resolution display easier, and better ambient occlusion.
So, which is better? Neither
Both Nvidia and AMD is good for their own features. In the end, both of these companies rely on competition with each other to thrive. It is Truthful to say, the Nvidia vs AMD debate requires that you understand there’s a reason Radeon and GeForce GPUs are so similar in performance now.
Each company is doing its best to keep up with the mindshare of the other, and that’s good for us. They’re basically fighting for more sales, learning from each other’s mistakes and redesign themselves for improvements along the way.
It’s up to you who wins the fiery contest of Nvidia vs AMD, although we will say this: Nvidia is unmatched in the Ray Tracing Technology right now. If it helps any, the RTX 3080 is probably your best bet if you want your PC to keep up with your Ultra HD display – as long as you can afford it. On the other hand, if you’re on a budget and looking into mid-range cards, Nvidia and AMD graphics cards will probably be about the same.
